Several months ago, the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Moriah Films film division launched a new weekly short film series called “Courage+Valor: Stories That Inspire.” A film about Prof. Merin, who is now the Director General of Shaare Zedek, from when he was awarded the Center’s Medal of Valor in 2010 was selected to be part of this series.

Over the years, the Simon Wiesenthal Center has presented hundreds of people with the Center’s Medal of Valor Award for their courage and bravery. Moriah Films clips highlight courageous individuals who have made a difference, impacted others, and improved the lives of people around them. Each film is focused on one individual and their amazing and many times unknown, story of courage and heroism.
With regard to this current series, Rabbi Marvin Founder and Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and two-time Academy Award-winner shared, “At a time like this, we need stories that are uplifting that highlight the best of humanity. This series does just that.”
Richard Trank, Academy Award-winner, Executive Producer, Principal Writer and Director of Moriah Films explained, “We are excited that we can share these incredible stories that we have been producing for close to three decades with a much larger audience, especially now.”
Shaare Zedek is proud that the film of Prof. Merin receiving the Center’s Medal of Valor is among the short films that is part of this inspiring effort. Other people who were profiled as part of this effort include Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger; Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords; the Tuskegee Airmen; Carl Laemmle, the founder of Universal Pictures and the savior of hundreds of European Jews fleeing Hitler and Israeli Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres and David Ben-Gurion.
